Community Grants

Komen Central Mississippi Steel Magnolias is the local source for funding breast cancer detection, support and educational awareness in our 59 county service area in Mississippi.  Through its 2014-2015 community grants, Komen Central Mississippi Steel Magnolias invested $170,780 in education, diagnosis, treatment and support programs here in our service area by providing 7 local organizations that serve uninsured or underinsured residents in our service area with grants. Since it was founded in 1999, Komen Central Mississippi Steel Magnolias has invested more than $3 million in local breast health agencies and organizations.

It is estimated that over 11,409 people in are service area today are living with breast cancer and at least 2,000 will die from this dreadful disease.  The funds Komen Central Mississippi Steel Magnolias  grants to community programs in our service area have made a positive difference in the lives of those living with this deadly disease.

During the 2014-2015 grant cycle, Komen Central Mississippi Steel Magnolias  funding provided:

  • 60,633 people with breast health education
  • 499 no-cost screening mammograms for medically underserved
  • 29 people with breast cancer diagnostic services
  • 249 breast cancer patients with treatment assistance including transportation services to medical appointments, medical care, prostheses, and case management
  • 417 Clinical breast exams
  • 20 breast cancers were detected in people who otherwise may not have had access to this life-saving information who are now able to seek treatment

The remaining 25 percent of net funds were invested in the Susan G. Komen Grants Program managed at the national level. To learn more about Susan G.
